I’ve always thought that finding a message in a bottle would be an interesting experience. Unfortunately, since it’s also a rare experience and not one that can be controlled, I decided to go a different route and release one instead. In fact, during my Atlantic crossing, I released two bottles.
The first was when we were about 1/3 of the way across the Atlantic from Bermuda and the second was when we were adrift at sea @300 miles from the Azores.
In both instances, I enclosed a short note in a wine bottle and chucked it over. The first note was pretty basic just giving my contact info and our position at the time of release. The second was a bit more dire and may cause a bit more drama if it is ever found because it mentions that we are adrift at sea and waiting to be rescued.
I don’t know if they’ll ever be found, but even if not, they were fun to send. If they are found, I hope that they bring a bit of fun into the life of the finder and they take the time to drop me a note.
I will have to see what other chances I have to let a message go as it was, as anticipated, pretty fun. 🙂
