I got to head back to Mexico this month, which always helps with the budget even though the flight down from Canada bumped it up a bit. I also moved around quite a bit and shared a nice house with a friend for a week which added to the total. There are 3 days in Ajijic, Mexico which were mostly paid for by someone else and that sum is not included in this total as it didn’t come out of my pocket.
This summary covers travel related expenses for 1-28 February 2017.
Location(s) Visited This Month
- Montreal, Canada
- Mexico City, Mexico
- Puerto Escondido, Mexico
- Guadalajara, Mexico
- Ajijic, Mexico
- Guadalajara, Mexico
Transportation – $317.63
- This is for uber, public transportation, flights to and within Mexico, and bus travel. My flight from Puerto Escondido to Guadalajara was covered by someone else but would have added less than $100.
Lodging – $225.09
- I was house sitting in Montreal through the 13th, so that helped keep costs down. In addition, I split my Airbnb in Puerto Escondido with a friend which helped with expenses a bit. The rest of the costs are for hostels and hotel room. 3 nights of lodging in Ajijic were covered by someone else, but they would not have been indicative of my normal spending as I was in an expensive hotel. Had I stayed in Guadalajara instead I would have an extra $36 in lodging expenses.
Food & Entertainment – $121.38
- I have started fasting which helps keep my expenses for food relatively low, but I still had a few nice dinners out this month.
Miscellaneous – $313.08
- This money was all cash which I don’t track. Most of this went towards food and transportation with about $70 of it going towards lodging.
Monthly Total: $977.18
Average monthly spend: $785.31 ($214.69)*
* My average monthly spending target is $1k/mo. This number is the average for the months I’ve been working remotely so far. The amount in parentheses is the amount I’m over or under my goal.
I am so inspired by your story in Glamour Mag. I work for a Solar company (SunEdison) in HR with the flexibility to perform my job anywhere. However, my company filed Bankruptcy and I will have to find a new job soon. I am married and a mom and flexibility allowed me to manage both areas -work and home with ease. As I shift forward, I would hate to go back into HRIS in a traditional HR environment but looking for ideas to work remotely. Thanks for showing me, taking risk are great assets for us wanderers
I’m glad you enjoyed it! I think more services like HR will start to be remote, so hopefully you’ll be able to find another job that fits your needs. Good luck!
